Congaree National Park is the home of a forest bottomland hardwood. The park is traversed by the Congaree River, so that’s how its got his name. The park was established in 2009 and is a great place of interest. Here you can hike or just walk around and notice the beautiful nature that surrounds you. You can travel with the canoe also.


The Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is a must see if you are traveling in Columbia. It is actually formed by a zoo and a botanical garden. The Riverbanks Zoo and Garden host an aquarium too, and it is such a great aquarium that it was even awarded. Named “Aquarium Reptile Complex”, the aquarium is the home for different species of both fish and reptiles. It is actually divided into 4 sections, showing the fauna in the Desert, South Carolina, the reptiles found in the Tropics and the wildlife found in the Ocean. In the zoo the life of the lions and giraffes can be observed. Kids can interact with the animals in the Riverbanks Farm, where they can touch domestic animals like cows or horses and they are even allowed to ride a pony. The Botanical Garden is the perfect place to notice different species of plants and flowers. It is importing to know that they have both native and exotic plants. But because it is pretty big (70 acres), visitors have a trail system they can use to see the surroundings.


Columbia Museum of Art was first opened 60 years ago. Now it is formed by 25 galleries and it hosts different Baroque and Renaissance art works, from several centuries. One of these collections was actually a gift from a donator, the Samuel Kress Foundation. Here tourists can see one of Claude Monet's artwork, “The Seine at Giverny”. There are different collections of sculpture and paintings too. Other famous paintings that can be admired here are : “The Nativity” by Sandro Botticelli, “Christ Surrounded by Angels” by Sebastiano Ricci or “Charity of St. Nicholas” painted by an van der Straet. The art work come from all over the world, including Europe and Asia.


The Sesquicentennial State Park was built in 1937 and it formed by 1,419 acres of land and has a beautiful lake also. Both locals and tourists chose to spend their time here. You can even bring your pet with you or spend a nice time with your family at a picnic.
